Signus Prime campaign
The Signus Prime campaign, fought early in the Horus Heresy, saw the Blood Angels under Sanguinius trapped on Signus Prime by daemons of Ka’Bandha and Kyriss. The siege was contrived by the Warmaster Horus, who employed the sorcerer Kyriss to breach the immaterium above the world and unleash a host of Khornate daemons commanded by the greater daemon Ka’Bandha, sealing the Legion within the Signus Cluster. As the siege drew on, growing numbers of Blood Angels succumbed to a violent madness later known as the Black Rage, an affliction rooted in Sanguinius’s own troubled inheritance that thereafter beset the Legion. Sanguinius himself ultimately met Ka’Bandha in single combat on the field of Signus Prime and slew the daemon, though he was gravely wounded and, for a time, believed to have perished. By holding the Blood Angels at Signus, Horus kept Sanguinius’s Legion from the slaughter he subsequently visited upon loyalist forces at Isstvan, sparing it that massacre while leaving it depleted and scarred by the ordeal. The Signus Prime campaign is remembered in Blood Angels tradition as the origin of the Black Rage that afflicted the Legion, and later its Chapter successors, throughout the Imperium’s history.
