Segmentum Solar

Segmentum Solar is one of the Imperium’s five Segmenta Majoris, the central division containing Terra, its throneworld, and Mars, its fortress-forge world. Reckoned the most densely populated human region since the Dark Age of Technology, it forms the strategic and administrative heart from which the High Lords of Terra and the wider Adeptus Terra direct the Imperium’s affairs.

The segmentum encompasses Sector Solar around Sol itself, along with Armageddon, Ullanor, Necromunda, and the approaches of Beta-Garmon; some charts, including this one, place Fenris within its bounds. Battlefleet Solar, the Imperial Navy’s heaviest fleet formation, is stationed here in permanent defence of the Throneworld, alongside the Legio Custodes and the choral chambers of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica on Terra itself.

The segmentum has borne the weight of the Imperium’s gravest hours. The Ullanor Triumph, staged after Horus’s crusade against the orks, unfolded here before the Horus Heresy; the Siege of Terra, the war’s climax around 014.M31, was fought at the Throneworld’s Eternity Gate and across its approaches, with the Imperial Fists and Legio Custodes among its defenders. In later millennia, Armageddon within the segmentum endured the Second and Third Wars for Armageddon against Ghazghkull Thraka’s Orks, while Beta-Garmon became a contested front during the Indomitus Crusade that followed the onset of the Noctis Aeterna.

Segmentum Solar remains the Imperium’s centre of gravity, the segmentum from which all others are ultimately governed. On this site it has no parent entity, and it is distinct from sector-solar, the nested division surrounding Sol.
