Vervunhive

Vervunhive was the principal hive city of Verghast, an industrialised world within the Sabbat Worlds. It stood as the planet’s largest urban-manufactory complex, providing a home to a substantial population of hivers and serving as the economic and political heart of Verghast prior to the world’s entanglement in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.

During the Crusade, Vervunhive was besieged by Chaos forces loyal to the Archon Anakwanar Sek, an assault that inflicted catastrophic damage upon the hive’s lower and outer levels and threatened its complete destruction. The defence of the city, chronicled in the Gaunt’s Ghosts series, drew upon the hive’s own militia alongside Imperial Guard units diverted to the world’s relief, and culminated in the lifting of the siege at heavy cost to both the hive’s structure and its population.

In the aftermath of the siege, survivors of Vervunhive’s shattered population furnished recruits for the Tanith First-and-Only regiment, becoming known within that unit as Verghastites; the hive and its fate subsequently featured as recurring background to the regiment’s later campaigns.
