Anrakyr

Overlord, The Traveller

Also known as Anrakyr the Traveller, The Traveler

Anrakyr the Traveller is a Necron Overlord who abandoned his crownworld, Pyrrhia, to roam the galaxy awakening dormant tomb worlds under his own banner. What distinguishes him from most of his kind is not ambition but clarity: where millennia in stasis leave the majority of Necron nobles hollowed into ritual-bound husks, or worse, degrade them into the mindless, flesh-hungry Flayed Ones, Anrakyr rose with his memory and judgement essentially unimpaired. That intact mind gave him the independence to question his place within dynastic hierarchy, and in time to walk away from it rather than rule from a throne he no longer wished to keep.

Pyrrhia has had no ruler in residence since Anrakyr’s departure, and he has never gone back to reclaim it. In its place he leads the Pyrrhian Eternals, a warband bound to him personally rather than to any dynasty or phaeron, the supreme ruler most Necron nobles still answer to. His crusade is itinerant by design: he moves from tomb world to tomb world, rousing dormant warriors and slumbering courts, and from each awakened stronghold levies a toll of troops, weapons, and matériel before moving on. The practice has made him, out of necessity rather than intent, a broker of Necron manpower who owes allegiance to no single dynasty yet commands the loyalty of scattered legions across many.

Those wanderings have repeatedly drawn Anrakyr into the affairs of dynasties far grander than his own. He is recorded as a counsellor to Imotekh the Stormlord during a crisis that threatened the Sautekh Dynasty, working alongside the Nemesor Zahndrekh, Zahndrekh’s loyal Vargard Obyron, the antiquarian Trazyn the Infinite, and the astromancer Orikan the Diviner to rally scattered Necron forces against a common enemy. The alliance is remembered as one of necessity rather than trust: Trazyn’s acquisitive curiosity and Orikan’s private ambitions sit poorly against Anrakyr’s blunter, more soldierly sense of duty, and the coalition holds together only for as long as the threat demands.

Opinion of Anrakyr among the Necrons remains divided. Some regard him as a restorer, labouring tomb by tomb to knit the shattered Necron empire back together; others dismiss him as a brigand who raises troops and levies tribute without the sanction of any phaeron. The Pyrrhian Eternals he left behind take no side in that judgement and continue to fight in his name regardless of his long absence. In battle he is noted for a rare gift among Necron nobility: the ability to briefly seize command of an enemy’s weapon systems and turn them against their own side, a trait consistent with the Necrons’ deep mastery of technology and deception. He remains active in the present era, his crusade unfinished, his loyalty his own to give.
