Inquisitor Toth

Mordecai Toth of the Ordo Malleus was already on Tartarus when the Orks arrived, looking for the Maledictum rather than a greenskin problem. He told Gabriel Angelos to leave ahead of a warp storm, then stayed because the stone was the actual mission.

He suspected Angelos of obsession, missed Isador Akios until the Librarian had already fallen, and still put the Daemonhammer God-Splitter into Gabriel's hands to kill Sindri Myr. Angelos used the same weapon on the Maledictum and opened the prison Toth had come to keep shut. Goto's novel even hints the Inquisitor was part of the joke. Other sources do not repeat that sentence.

The planet was lost either way. Toth's last useful act was lending a hammer to a man who would swing it at the wrong lock.
