Inquisitor Toth

Mordecai Toth is an Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, present on Tartarus in pursuit of the Maledictum before the arrival of the Orks. His purpose on the planet concerned the Maledictum, a stone, and not the Ork invasion.

Toth advised Gabriel Angelos to leave Tartarus ahead of a warp storm but remained himself, since securing the stone was his mission. He suspected Angelos of obsession and did not detect Isador Akios until the Librarian had already fallen. He nonetheless gave Angelos the Daemonhammer God-Splitter, which Angelos used to kill Sindri Myr. Angelos then used the same weapon on the Maledictum, opening the prison that Toth had come to keep shut.

Tartarus was lost regardless of these events. Toth’s last significant act was to supply the weapon that Angelos turned against the Maledictum, defeating the Inquisitor’s own objective. Goto’s novel suggests that the Inquisitor had a part in this outcome; other sources do not repeat the suggestion.
