Lord Bale

Lord Bale is an Alpha Legion lord who died in a duel with Gabriel Angelos on Tartarus while assisting the sorcerer Sindri Myr. He should not be confused with the planet Bale, which is a separate entry.

Bale sought a direct engagement and a daemonic enhancement. Sindri Myr promised him both on condition that the Maledictum on Tartarus proceeded without discovery. Bale disliked the tactic of screening the operation with Orks, and he disliked waiting more, but the prospect of reward kept him from attacking until the Blood Ravens located the camp. Sindri then needed time to continue his work, and Bale fought Angelos in a duel. He was killed, and his death gave Sindri the delay required.

Bale’s fate illustrates a recurring feature of the Alpha Legion: its lords tend to believe that sorcerers serve them, when the arrangement often works the other way. The events on Tartarus are an instructive example of this pattern, in which a Legion lord’s ambitions were used to advance another’s ritual.
