The Lords of Silence are a Death Guard war-band of Nurgle-worshipping Plague Marines commanded by the Tallyman Vorx. Raised from the ranks of Mortarion’s Legion in the era after the Horus Heresy, the war-band takes its name from an affliction that sets it apart even among the Death Guard: the blessings of resilience and numbness to pain that Nurgle grants his Chosen have grown faint and uncertain within its ranks, leaving its warriors exposed to suffering and death in a way their rotting brethren are not.

Accounts describe Vorx leading the war-band on a campaign to recover Nurgle’s favour, seeking out relics and old covenants believed capable of restoring the Plague God’s blessings to his silence-stricken followers. The war-band operates within the broader currents of Mortarion’s Death Guard, answering ultimately to the primarch’s command even as it pursues its own desperate errand, and its course runs alongside that of other Nurgle-favoured commanders such as Typhus, First Captain of the Death Guard and master of the plague fleet Terminus Est, though no direct meeting between Vorx and Typhus is recorded.

The Lords of Silence stand as an unusual case within the Death Guard’s ranks, a war-band whose crisis of faith illustrates how precarious even Nurgle’s most devoted service can become.
