Catachan

Catachan is a jungle death world, a planet whose biosphere kills colonists, armoured vehicles and, on occasion, Space Marines. The term “death world” denotes a planet whose natural environment is lethal to human life.

The planet’s only significant export is its Jungle Fighter regiments. Their training derives from the biosphere itself, which removes the need for a dedicated Planetary Defence Force. Daemons arrived on Catachan with the Rift and were defeated.

Catachan serves as the standard against which other death worlds are compared. Its vegetation is regarded as hazardous throughout, and any landing there is treated accordingly.
