Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken is the Catachan who replaced enough of himself with steel that the jungle finally needed a new nickname. He leads from the front because Catachan officers who do otherwise do not stay officers, and he treats commissars as a weather condition.
The bionics are not ornamental. They are what was left after the planet and the galaxy took their cuts. Straken has broken Orks, traitors, and the odd staff officer who thought a death world regiment wanted a parade rather than a colonel who still bites.
Catachan does not make gentlemen. It makes colonels who can still hold a blade after the arm is gone.
