Sicarus
Sicarus is a Word Bearers daemon world in the Eye of Terror, its cathedral surface a crust of temples stacked upon temples above a largely subterranean city. Successive generations of shrine-builders have raised new temples over the old rather than clearing them away, so that the visible skyline of spires and reliquaries sits atop a much older, buried city that still houses much of the world’s population.
Sicarus’s prominence within Word Bearers tradition dates from the aftermath of the Shadow Crusade against Ultramar in the early 31st Millennium. After the Legion’s defeat at the Battle of Calth, Roboute Guilliman ordered the destruction of Colchis, the Word Bearers’ birthworld, in retaliation; with Colchis gone, Kor Phaeron withdrew into the Eye of Terror rather than return to a homeworld that no longer existed, and accounts hold that Sicarus was where he made his refuge. The world subsequently took on something of the role Colchis had once held for the Legion, as hearth and reliquary rather than open battleground.
Sicarus is recorded as the seat of the Dark Council, the Word Bearers’ ruling conclave, which meets within the Basilica of the Word. Lorgar Aurelian himself is said to have withdrawn to the world’s Templum Inficio, meditating there for millennia largely apart from the Legion’s campaigns elsewhere; accounts differ as to how often, if ever, he emerges. At the summits of Sicarus’s spires, living sacrifice is offered as a standing rite, binding the world’s devotions to the cult Lorgar built around himself and the Chaos gods.
Alongside Calth and lost Colchis, Sicarus marks a hinge in the Word Bearers’ timeline: the Legion’s turn from open war on Ultramar toward a longer age of doctrine, sacrifice, and waiting within the Eye of Terror, with Kor Phaeron’s flight there standing as one of the clearest links between a single named event on the crusade’s frontier and the Legion’s enduring seat of power beyond the Eye.
