Tarentus

Tarentus is a desert-agricultural location in Ultramar that shares both its land-use pattern and its Three Planets barycentre with Masali. The barycentre is the common centre of mass about which the three bodies of that grouping move. Its settlement is organised around dome cities.

During the Invasion of Ultramar, dated to 999.M41 (the 999th year of the forty-first millennium), M’kar’s daemons massacred the population of Tarentus’s dome cities first. The location was therefore among the earliest to suffer in that campaign.

The ground had been contested before. Calgar’s reconquest of the region followed the Behemoth invasion, and it precedes the events of 999.M41. Tarentus is thus associated with two separate episodes of conflict, and its standing in the record rests on that sequence and on its close parallels with Masali.
