Acerbus

Acerbus is a Chaplain of the Night Lords Traitor Legion, keeper of doctrine aboard the strike cruiser Covenant of Blood.

As First Chaplain, Acerbus enforced the Legion’s creed among the warband answering to the Exalted, the Night Lords commander who claimed authority in the long absence of the primarch Konrad Curze. He regarded the prophetic visions afflicting Talos Valcoran, commander of the squad First Claw, as a dangerous corruption rather than a gift, and moved to purge what he judged a threat to the warband’s cohesion. The confrontation between the two ended in single combat, and Acerbus is recorded as having fallen to Talos’s blade, a killing that marked the younger legionary as a figure to be watched and feared within the fleet.

Acerbus’s death stands as an early marker in Talos Valcoran’s rise to infamy among the Night Lords, deepening the mistrust between First Claw, whose members include Xarl, Cyrion, and Uzas, and the wider warband serving the Exalted. He belongs to the same span of the Legion’s long exile as these contemporaries, active aboard the Covenant of Blood during the centuries of raiding that followed the Legion’s flight from a ruined Nostramo, in the era of the Night Lords’ passage toward the Eye of Terror.
