Krieg Acerbus

Krieg Acerbus, called the Axemaster, is a Night Lords captain who ascended to daemonhood and leads the largest warband of the Legion. He is recorded as the youngest captain chosen by Konrad Curze, the Primarch of the Night Lords, and his origins lie on Nostramo, the Legion’s home world. He is distinguished by tribal scars around the mouth and by his power axe, and he is noted for an open courage that set him apart from many of his fellow captains, whose reputation rested on stealth and terror by indirection. He belongs to the era of the Horus Heresy and to the long aftermath in the 41st Millennium (M41), which is why the Orrery lists his era as both.

The Night Lords were divided over what would follow the Primarch. Curze is recorded as having foreseen his own death, and Acerbus set himself to claim the Legion’s inheritance. His principal rival in this was Sahaal, who sought a crown; Acerbus held instead that the infliction of fear was itself the purpose of the Legion’s wars and not a secondary tactic in service of conquest. After the events on Tsagualsa, he took command of a warband that grew into the largest Night Lords host in the galaxy, and he later treated his ascension to Daemon Prince as an earned promotion rather than a corruption. When Sahaal re-emerged in M41, Acerbus answered the distress call concerning the Corona Nox and told him that Curze had named Sahaal only an interim caretaker, charged with preserving the seat until a successor took it. Acerbus declines to attend the reunions of the divided Legion and keeps his warband apart from its rival claimants. His formal sermons present fear not as an operational method but as the harvest and definitive purpose of his warfare.
