Aza’gorod

Aza’gorod, the Nightbringer, is a C’tan whose reaper-like form gave many species their image of death. It was the first C’tan to cross the star-bridge into living metal, and the first to conclude that mortal souls were preferable to stars as sustenance. Through this, it imprinted the shape of death on almost every species that still recoils from the scythe.

The Silent King’s revolt broke the Nightbringer into shards, an event that followed its consumption of other C’tan. One shard awoke on Pavonis while Uriel Ventris was present and left its tomb. Destroyer Cults continue to venerate a whole Nightbringer, and Nekrosor Ammentar has been gathering its fragments in the apparent expectation that the god can be reassembled.

The Aeldari know the Nightbringer as Kaelis Ra, and humans call it the Reaper. Its history is unfinished: it survives as a number of shards, each of which retains the appetite of the original.
