Gorgutz

Gorgutz ’Ead ’Unter is an Ork Warboss whose skull-collecting campaigns on Kronus and Kaurava made him one of the best-known Warlords of the Dawn of War era. A Warboss commands a warband through raw strength and the fear it inspires, and Gorgutz has sustained his position over many Waaagh!s by matching that dominance with a habit of mounting the skulls of defeated enemies as trophies. His name records this practice directly, and his accumulated wealth in teef, the tusks Orks use as currency, marks him among the more successful Warbosses to have led a Waaagh! into Imperial and xenos space.

Gorgutz’s best-attested campaign centres on Kronus, a world he has invaded more than once, contesting it against the Blood Ravens Chapter of Space Marines, Imperial Guard garrisons, an Eldar craftworld, and forces of Chaos also drawn to the planet. No single faction has secured Kronus outright, and Gorgutz treats each incomplete Waaagh! there as groundwork for a further attempt rather than a closed defeat. A comparable campaign on Kaurava saw him drawn into a wider three-way war for the planet, again pursuing plunder and a fight worth having over any fixed territorial claim. In both cases his presence marks a period in which several factions with otherwise separate interests were forced into direct contact by his invasion.

Unlike Warbosses whose ambition outstrips their following and ends in a single overreaching Waaagh!, Gorgutz has kept his warband intact across repeated campaigns by treating failure as a prelude rather than a verdict. This persistence, rather than any single decisive victory, is what has kept his name current among Ork Warlords active in the era, and Kronus in particular stands as the clearest point at which his campaigns intersect with the wider timeline of the Imperium, the Eldar, and Chaos incursions into the region.
