Isador Akios

Isador Akios was a Librarian of the Blood Ravens’ Third Company who accepted the Maledictum on Tartarus and was killed by his former friend, Gabriel Angelos. He had been a friend of Angelos until the Maledictum was offered to him, when he concluded that knowledge justified heresy.

Akios helped the Blood Ravens win a world and then attempted to keep the daemon on it. Angelos killed him for that act. The Chapter afterwards maintained that the lesson had been absorbed, but it later learned that Kyras had been teaching a worse one from the throne. The betrayal by Akios was personal, whereas that of Kyras was institutional.

Cyrene and Tartarus are the settings of Akios’s fall. His case is the Chapter’s oldest publicly known betrayal, and later Librarians of the Chapter serve in the shadow it cast. Jonah Orion inherited the office of Librarian but not the justification Akios had offered.
