Comus
Companion, Blank-adjacent
Comus was a blank-adjacent companion to Beta Bequin during her flight across Sancour, through Queen Mab and the City of Dust. His null-touched presence, the same unsettling blankness that marked Beta herself, meant he unsettled psykers and daemonic taint alike, but it also made him unreliable company for anyone who needed warmth or trust rather than cover. He stayed close to Beta through the worst of that passage, when the wider currents of Gideon Ravenor’s pursuit of the Cognitae conspiracy brushed against the Angelus Subsector and made ordinary allegiances dangerous to keep.
On Sancour, Comus and Renner Lightburn divided the practical work of keeping Beta alive between them. Lightburn knew the streets, the contacts, and the City of Dust’s hidden ways; Comus managed something harder to name, the quiet damage that a blank leaves in any room they occupy, the way conversation dies and instinct turns wary around them. That division of labour let Beta move through Queen Mab without drawing the attention her Cognitae-shaped nature would otherwise have invited.
Comus is remembered, where he is remembered at all, as one of the people who kept Beta Bequin moving when the Cognitae’s design for her threatened to overwhelm her. Accounts of his origins and eventual fate are not fully attested, and Queen Mab’s surviving record pairs his name chiefly with hers, a companion defined by the company he kept rather than by deeds recorded in his own right. His status beyond the Sancour affair remains unclear.
