Navar Hef

Navar Hef is a Raven Guard figure of the Horus Heresy era, recorded in connection with the Raptors reconstitution programme on the moon of Deliverance. He belongs to the Legion of Corvus Corax, the Space Marine Legion that took the lunar fortress of Deliverance, in the Kiavahr system, as its principal base, and he is associated with the effort to rebuild that Legion after its near-destruction at the Isstvan V drop site massacre.

The Raptors were an accelerated induction and implantation programme conducted on Deliverance, intended to replace the Legion’s losses far faster than orthodox gene-seed processes allowed. Hef is named among the personnel connected with that work, which is otherwise chiefly associated with Branne Nev, who took direct charge of it. The programme yielded unstable warriors, and Corax ended it himself once its cost became apparent, rebuilding the Legion by slower and more conventional means. The precise rank, duties and part Hef played within the programme are not reliably fixed, and accounts differ on how far he directed the work or served under others.

Hef’s standing rests on his link to one of the most contested episodes in Raven Guard history, which the Legion’s successors remember as both a necessity and a wrong. His contemporaries in the Heresy period include Corvus Corax, Branne Nev and Nykona Sharrowkyn, and the events fall in the years immediately after Isstvan V, with Deliverance as the fixed place of action. His fate is not recorded with confidence, and no later appearance in the Imperium of the forty-first millennium can be attached to him.
