Siege of Pireaus
The Siege of Pireaus was a siege of the Badab War, fought at Pireaus in the Badab system between Loyalist and Secessionist forces. It followed the Imperium’s declaration of the Astral Claws and their allies as renegades after Chapter Master Lufgt Huron, later known as Huron Blackheart, proclaimed himself Tyrant of Badab and withdrew the sector from Imperial rule. Pireaus, a holding within the Badab sector under the host system’s jurisdiction, became a contested point as the Loyalist coalition — mustered under the Imperial Fists and drawn from several Chapters answering the call against secession — moved to encircle and reduce Secessionist strongpoints across the sector. Accounts of the siege describe a protracted contest between orbital blockade and ground assault, typical of the wider Badab War’s attritional character, as Secessionist garrisons loyal to Huron and his allied Chapters, including elements sympathetic to the Astral Claws’ cause, held fortified positions against a numerically and materially superior Loyalist force. The fighting at Pireaus is recorded as one of several such actions fought in parallel across the Badab sector during the war’s later years, each contributing to the gradual collapse of Secessionist resistance rather than standing as a single decisive engagement in its own right. The siege’s resolution mirrored the broader trajectory of the Badab War, which ended in the defeat of Huron and the dissolution of the Secessionist alliance, though the Astral Claws’ remnants survived in diminished and embittered form as the later Red Corsairs.
