Bray’arth Ashmantle

Sokhar Bray’arth, called Ashmantle, was Captain of the Salamanders Fourth Company and is now sealed within the relic machine known as the Iron Dragon. He was entombed in a sarcophagus after an encounter with the Genestealers of Ymgarl. The Chapter later placed that sarcophagus inside the Iron Dragon, a relic said to be the work of Vulkan, because only a will of comparable obstinacy could operate the machine without being consumed by it.

Bray’arth disappeared beneath Casvsarae for nine days while pursuing Black Legion forces and abhumans through its ducts. He re-emerged so thoroughly coated in soot that the Chapter gave him the name Ashmantle. Pellas Mir’san later awakened him for the campaign at Badab, and did so with the reluctance that Nocturne, the Salamanders’ homeworld, reserves for weapons that may not return quietly to their confinement.

Nocturne esteems heroes who are active and present among the living; Bray’arth is both fiercely committed and enclosed. The Iron Dragon continues to take the field only when the Promethean Cult judges the omen of leaving it dormant to be graver than the awakening itself.
