Molech

Molech is a Knight world in the Segmentum Solar, ruled from Lupercalia by House Devine until its allegiance broke during the Horus Heresy. Millennia before that betrayal, the Emperor is recorded as having entered a warp gate beneath the planet and returned bearing the knowledge later used to create the Primarchs, an event that later tradition holds was witnessed by Alivia Sureka, a physician said to have endured unaging into the Heresy era.

During the Horus Heresy, House Devine’s ruler broke faith with the Imperium and opened Molech to an invasion force led by Horus and Mortarion’s Death Guard. Accounts differ on the full extent of Horus’s aims, but he is recorded as seeking to draw the Emperor Himself onto the field, and the Emperor is described as personally taking part in the planet’s defence, one of His few attested battlefield appearances in the Heresy before the Siege of Terra. Most of the Imperial garrison, including Knight households loyal to the Throne, perished defending Lupercalia and the approaches to the warp gate.

The Scouring later retook Molech, restoring Imperial rule after House Devine’s fall. The world therefore occupies two fixed points on the timeline: a pre-Heresy prologue bound to the Emperor’s own origin knowledge, and an early Heresy campaign, ahead of Isstvan and the eventual Siege of Terra, that briefly brought Horus, Mortarion, and the Emperor into direct contact.
