Severian
Knight-Errant, Grey Knight Iapto
Also known as The Wolf, Iapto
Homeworld: Cthonia
Severian, called the Wolf, was a Luna Wolves legionary who renounced Horus to serve Malcador the Sigillite as one of the Knights-Errant. Cthonian by birth and drilled in the gang-honed brutality that Horus prized in his Legion, Severian set that inheritance aside when he swore himself to the Sigillite’s covert brotherhood, trading the Luna Wolves’ wolf-grey and silver for unadorned black plate that marked no company, no oath, and no home Legion.
As a Knight-Errant, Severian answered directly to Malcador on Terra, operating alongside other legionaries and agents Malcador drew into his household of deniable operatives during the years before and into the opening of the Horus Heresy. The Knights-Errant were bound by no shared doctrine beyond loyalty to the Sigillite and the willingness to be spent on tasks too sensitive for the Legiones Astartes chain of command; Severian’s standing among them rested on the close-quarters lethality the Luna Wolves had first taught him, now turned in service of Terra rather than the Warmaster.
Malcador committed Severian to the war on Molech, the campaign during which Horus’s wounding and subsequent corruption set the Heresy irrevocably in motion. Severian endured the worst of that fighting and survived it, but the outcome hardened rather than healed the breach with his former Legion: he did not return to Cthonia, and he never sought reconciliation with the Sons of Horus that the Luna Wolves became. His allegiance to Malcador, and through him to the Emperor, was by that point absolute and irreversible.
Official rosters of the Grey Knights on Titan later recorded a Paladin named Iapto, and cautious tradition within that Chapter’s history identifies him with Severian rather than treating the coincidence of record as accidental. Whether Severian himself carried the name into a second life among Malcador’s nascent Chapter, or whether Iapto is simply how the order’s early recruitment of proven, unaffiliated veterans came to be remembered, is not settled; either way, Severian’s fate after Molech is recorded as unresolved, and his status is given as missing rather than confirmed dead.
