Aun'Va was Ethereal Supreme of the T'au Empire, Master of the Undying Spirit, the voice that told Fire Warriors why the next sphere was worth dying for. He stood at Shadowsun's shoulder through the Third Sphere and made the Greater Good sound inevitable.
A Culexus found him at Mu'gulath Bay and ended the man. The Ethereal Council did not end the broadcast. Holograms still give the speeches. The caste still bows. Shadowsun is one of the few who knows the difference, and the Empire is built on nobody else learning it.
The title outlived the person. That is either the Greater Good at its most efficient, or the confession that the Empire cannot survive an honest funeral.
