Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub

Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub is an Ork warlord of the Bad Moons clan, noted for his wealth in teef and for supplying teleportation technology to Ghazghkull.

Among the Bad Moons, whose culture prizes glittering wargear and accumulated riches above all else, Nazdreg stands as one of the wealthiest Ork leaders of his generation. He has consistently favoured the steady accumulation of teef, the currency and status marker common to all Ork clans, over the launching of a Waaagh! of his own. Imperial observers who have studied his conduct have likened it to that of a pirate captain who plans his raids from a map rather than a warlord who simply charges at the nearest enemy, and have noted a tactical patience that is often underestimated because it runs against the stereotype of Ork recklessness. Were Nazdreg ever to commit his full strength and following to a Waaagh! in his own name, he is judged capable of rivalling Ghazghkull Thraka, the self-proclaimed prophet of Gork and Mork and the dominant Ork warlord of the era.

Nazdreg’s rise owes much to his Meks, who refined the tellyporta, the crude but effective Ork teleportation device, after a protracted series of explosions and gravitic accidents typical of Orkish engineering. Rather than keep the technology to himself, Nazdreg traded it to Ghazghkull, binding the two warlords in a relationship of mutual benefit: Ghazghkull gained a weapon that let his Boyz strike without warning, while Nazdreg gained standing within Ghazghkull’s inner circle. Commanding the Scylla, a space hulk that served as his flagship, Nazdreg fought alongside Ghazghkull during the assault on Piscina IV, one of the opening actions of the Waaagh! that Ghazghkull later led against the Imperium.

Nazdreg’s independent campaigns have taken him far from Ghazghkull’s side. He led the Orks of Alsanta in a war against the forces of Commander Farsight, uniting the clans of that region under his own banner, until a shokk-portal, another volatile piece of Ork technology used to fling Gretchin and Orks across a battlefield, misfired and destroyed his Battlefortress. The setback did not end his career: he later read the sudden appearance of the Gitcrusha, a fellow space hulk, near the site of one of Ghazghkull’s subsequent wars as a sign from Gork and Mork, and used it as grounds to rejoin Ghazghkull’s inner circle rather than continue to campaign apart from him.

Nazdreg’s present standing rests on that renewed alliance. Having returned to Ghazghkull’s side, he has pressed for a more heavily armed and aggressive campaign than his earlier, wealth-focused strategy allowed, while remaining better known among Orks for his hoard and his cunning than for any Waaagh! fought under his own name. His history places him among the recurring figures of Ghazghkull’s wars against the Imperium, a contemporary of the other Bad Moons and Ork warlords who supply and profit from those campaigns, and his technological gift of the tellyporta has shaped how they have been fought.
