Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka

Prophet of the Waaagh, Warlord, Beast of Armageddon

Also known as Prophet of the Waaagh, Ghazghkull Thraka, Beast of Armageddon

Homeworld: Urk

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is an Ork warlord who calls himself the Prophet of the Waaagh and is called by the Imperium the Beast of Armageddon. His home world was Urk, in the Zornian System of Segmentum Solar, and he has been active from the late 41st millennium. On Urk he served as a Goff trooper until a bolter round struck his skull at Rukblud Peak. Mad Dok Grotsnik, a Deathskulls painboy (an Ork surgeon), rebuilt him. Accounts of how he reached Grotsnik differ: one says he walked to Rustspike, another that he was sold to Grotsnik, and another that Grotsnik operated during the raid, and the gretchin Makari later said that all of these stories are true. He claimed that the Ork gods Gork and Mork had given him a vision, and he united the clans of Urk. When the world’s star failed he left Urk aboard the space hulk Wurld Killa. Aboard it he fought a Bloodthirster (a greater daemon of Khorne). The hulk later reached the Armageddon System. His birth is recorded as 920 to 930.M41 and also as almost five hundred years after the First War for Armageddon in 444.M41.

He led the Ork invasion in the Second War for Armageddon, dated 941–943.M41, and withdrew after the main strength of his host was broken. The war is recorded as an Imperial victory. On Golgotha his forces held the world, and Commissar Sebastian Yarrick was captured in the Ishawar range. One account says Ghazghkull released him, and another says Yarrick escaped. The Golgotha expedition is dated 944.M41 and is also described as three years after the Second War for Armageddon, which is dated 941–943.M41. On Piscina IV, Ghazghkull and Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub are named as commanders of the Ork forces. That battle is dated 997.M41 and is also described as part of the Third War for Armageddon, which is dated from 998.M41. He opened the Third War on his return. It is dated from 998.M41, fifty-seven years to the day after the Second War, and he later left the planet. At the Battle of the Haunted Gulf, which was not fought on a world and has no coherent year, Yarrick and High Marshal Helbrecht cornered his flagship Kill Wrecka, and Ghazghkull escaped into the warp.

Accounts of his presence afterwards in the Octarius Sector, in Segmentum Ultima, differ, and neither names a battlefield world. One account says Kill Wrecka reappeared in the Ork empire of Octarius after the Battle of the Haunted Gulf, where he contended first with the rival warboss Urgok Da Slayer and then with Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan, and that he later left the Octarius warzone at the head of a fleet of over five million ships. Another account dates his arrival in the Octarius Sector to 999.M41, when he came to the aid of Orks under Zog Steeltoof, killed a Mawloc (a large Tyranid burrowing creature), and rallied the Orks of the sector, before leading an armada of five million warships toward the Imperium. On Krongar, in the Skarskell Subsector of Segmentum Ultima, in the early Era Indomitus and with no narrower year, Ragnar Blackmane decapitated him. One account says Grotsnik restored him after ten days by a beam from an orbital generator, and that he was larger afterwards. Another says the head was grafted to a cybernetic body, after which he stopped the fighting among Krongar’s tribes, fought Ragnar again in an inconclusive skirmish, and Ragnar dropped an orbital station onto the world. On Icaria, a world with no recorded segmentum, in the Era Indomitus and before the Fourth War for Armageddon of M42, with no narrower year recorded, he had built a prototype of a device called the Mega-Tellyshokka. Yarrick wounded him. Ghazghkull struck Yarrick unconscious with a headbutt and withdrew rather than kill him. The world broke apart, and Yarrick was taken off it and survived. The Fourth War for Armageddon is dated only to M42 and has no recorded end. His forces reached the planet by the Mega-Tellyshokka. For much of the war he remained aboard Kill Wrecka, he ordered an orbital strike that destroyed the Baneblade Fortress of Arrogance, and he later set foot on Armageddon.

Key engagements

  • Battle aboard Wurld Killa (Aboard the space hulk Wurld Killa, which is not a world, he fought a Bloodthirster and closed the warp rift. No year is recorded. The hulk’s later arrival in the Armageddon System belongs to the Second War and is not this battle.)
  • Battle of Hades Hive (He sent Warboss Ugulhard against Hades Hive during the Second War. Accounts differ on the end of the siege, including one account in which he attacked in person and Yarrick was nearly killed fighting him. The hive was not destroyed in that siege. The orbital destruction in 998.M41 is a different event.)
  • Battle of Icaria (On Icaria, a world with no recorded segmentum, in the Era Indomitus before the Fourth War and with no narrower year, he had built a prototype Mega-Tellyshokka. Yarrick wounded him. He struck Yarrick unconscious and withdrew. The world broke apart.)
  • Battle of Krongar (In the early Era Indomitus, with no narrower year, he fought Ragnar Blackmane on Krongar and was decapitated. One account says Grotsnik restored him with an orbital beam after ten days. Another says the head was grafted to a cybernetic body, after which Ragnar returned, they fought an inconclusive skirmish, and Ragnar dropped an orbital station on the world.)
  • Battle of Piscina IV (He and Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub are named as commanders of the Ork forces on Piscina IV. The battle is dated 997.M41 and is also described as part of the Third War for Armageddon, which is dated from 998.M41. The world is also described as a staging ground he used before that war.)
  • Battle of the Haunted Gulf (Yarrick and Helbrecht cornered his flagship Kill Wrecka in the Haunted Gulf, which is not a world. He escaped into the warp. No coherent year is recorded.)
  • Ghazghkull’s arrival in the Octarius Sector (One account places Kill Wrecka in the Ork empire of Octarius after the Haunted Gulf, where he contended with Urgok Da Slayer and then with Hive Fleet Leviathan, and left with a fleet of over five million ships.
