Conquest of Inwit

The Conquest of Inwit was the Great Crusade campaign in which the Imperial Fists brought the ice-world of Inwit into the Imperium. It belongs to the thirtieth millennium, when the Emperor’s Legions were extending Imperial rule across the galaxy by compliance or by force, and it is remembered chiefly for what followed. Inwit became one of the principal sources of recruits for the Imperial Fists, and the world is recorded as the birthplace of several officers who later stood close to Rogal Dorn. The Legion’s campaigns were conducted under the direction of its primarch, Rogal Dorn, and Inwit fits the pattern of a world reached and secured by the Imperial Fists rather than one taken by another Legion. The accounts available do not give a detailed order of battle, and the reasons for the campaign are best read in general terms: the Great Crusade’s aim of bringing isolated human worlds under a single authority, and the practical value of a hardy population as a source of Legion recruits. Where accounts differ on how much of the conquest was won by arms and how much by submission, this dossier records the outcome rather than a disputed sequence of engagements. The consequences are easier to trace than the campaign itself. Inwit’s sons entered the Legion in numbers, among them Archamus, later Captain of the Huscarls, and Camba Diaz, later Captain of the 50th Company and Lord Castellan of the Fourth Sphere. Both are recorded as dying in the Siege of Terra, Diaz on the Pons Solar and Archamus at the hands of Alpharius in the Solar War. On the Orrery map the event is anchored at Inwit, and on the timeline it stands early in the Imperial Fists’ Great Crusade history, before the Heresy in which the world’s recruits would be tested.
