Alexis Polux
Captain of the Imperial Fists, Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists
Also known as Polux
Homeworld: Inwit
Alexis Polux was an Imperial Fists captain of unusual size who became the first Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists.
Polux served the VII Legion during the Horus Heresy, an Astartes of such physical scale that his war-plate required individual construction to fit his frame. He is recorded as a steady, dependable officer rather than a showman, a temperament that suited the Imperial Fists’ defensive and siege-craft traditions under their primarch, Rogal Dorn. His reputation was forged at Phall, where the Imperial Fists blockade intended to delay the Iron Warriors and their allies from reaching Terra saw its senior commanders killed in the fighting. Command of the remaining fleet element fell to Polux, who held the line against the assault long enough to inflict losses that Perturabo, the primarch of the Iron Warriors and architect of the attack, is said to have remembered him by name afterward.
The Heresy later brought Polux to Sotha, a world held for Roboute Guilliman’s Ultramar as the site of the Pharos, a xenos beacon-structure repurposed for Imperial use. There he found Barabas Dantioch, an Iron Warriors Warsmith cast out by his own Legion for defying Perturabo’s methods, maintaining the installation virtually alone. Polux came to regard Dantioch as a brother in arms despite their opposed allegiances, an interaction the Orrery timeline records as one of the more notable bonds to cross Legion lines during the war. When the Pharos was ultimately destroyed to deny it to the enemy, it was Polux who was left holding Dantioch’s body, a moment that later Crimson Fists tradition treats as foundational to the Chapter’s ethos.
With the Second Founding’s division of the Legions, Polux took command of the Crimson Fists, one of the successor Chapters drawn from the Imperial Fists’ gene-line. Under his leadership the Chapter cultivated a marked aptitude for siege warfare, a discipline its members held to have been shaped in part by instruction traceable to a loyal Warsmith and to the example of a primarch, echoing the lessons Polux had carried away from Phall and Sotha. The Crimson Fists took Inwit as their home world in this period, establishing the base from which the Chapter would operate in the centuries that followed. Later trials that defined the Chapter in the wider era of the Imperium, including the near-annihilation at Rynn’s World, belong to a subsequent period beyond Polux’s own service, but the character and doctrine he impressed upon the Crimson Fists at their founding remained the foundation on which those later Astartes depended.
