Scouring of the Nostramo Sector
The Scouring of the Nostramo Sector denotes the Night Lords’ devastation of their own homeworld, Nostramo, under the primarch Konrad Curze. It centres on the bombardment recorded elsewhere on Orrery as the Destruction of Nostramo, which took place late in the Great Crusade, in the years before the Horus Heresy; the precise date is not firmly established. Accounts of any wider clearance of the surrounding sector are sparse, so the term is treated here as a name for that episode and its consequences rather than as a separate campaign. Nostramo was a sunless, adamantium-rich world whose hive cities were given over to entrenched crime, its sky darkened by a moon locked in permanent eclipse. Curze had grown to maturity in its depths, where he executed criminals as the vigilante known as the Night Haunter, and he governed the world through terror as primarch of the Night Lords, a Legion recruited largely from its pale, night-adapted population; Jago Sevatarion is among those who rose from its hives. His conduct became increasingly erratic as the Great Crusade continued. After a violent confrontation with Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists, his brother primarchs convened to weigh his fitness for command, and Curze killed his own guards on Cheraut before returning to Nostramo. Finding the world sunk back into the criminality he had once punished, he turned the Legion’s fleet against it, targeted a weak point in the planet’s crust, and cracked its core. The planet was reduced to drifting fragments on the inner edge of the Ghoul Stars, and the ruin remains the point of origin of the Night Lords and the lasting record of their primarch’s rule. The act marked Curze’s final breach with the Imperium he had served, and the Legion afterwards took Tsagualsa as its seat in exile. It stands in sequence with the later Horus Heresy and, ultimately, with the Death of Konrad Curze; on the map it is anchored at Nostramo, and on the timeline it is bound to the Night Lords.
