Sevatar

Sevatar, born Jago Sevatarion, was First Captain of the Night Lords, the VIII Legion of the Adeptus Astartes, under the primarch Konrad Curze. He is recorded as a Nostraman by origin, one of the Legion’s senior captains, and the officer holding the foremost rank beneath the Night Haunter during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. His name is associated with the Legion’s reputation for terror as a method of war, and with the close personal circle of a primarch whose relations with his own officers were marked by suspicion.

Sevatar’s career is tied to the fortunes of the VIII Legion after the Horus Heresy began. Following the Isstvan campaign, Curze withdrew to Tsagualsa, the Carrion World in the Thramas Sector of the Eastern Fringe, where an exile court formed around him and where Sevatar is recorded among those in attendance. During the Thramas Crusade the Dark Angels, led by Lion El’Jonson, were drawn against the Night Lords in that region, and Sevatar is recorded as having been taken captive in the course of the fighting. Accounts differ on the detail of his capture and on what became of him afterwards, and no settled account of his death is given here.

The standing of the First Captain is best understood through the geography of the Legion’s story: Nostramo, the world of Sevatar’s origin and of the Legion’s founding recruitment, and Tsagualsa, where its command was concentrated after Nostramo’s destruction. His place in the timeline lies in the opening years of the Heresy, contemporary with Konrad Curze, Lion El’Jonson and the Thramas Crusade, which delayed the Dark Angels from reaching Terra. Sevatar’s loss is recorded as a further weakening of a Legion already broken as a unified force, and his fate remains uncertain in the record.
