Hubris

Hubris is a Helican ice world whose long elliptical orbit leaves it frozen for eleven of every twenty-nine months. During the frozen period, one per cent of the inhabitants keep the Sun Dome in operation.

The colonists reached the planet after a seventy-year voyage in cryogenic suspension and named it Hubris in reference to their decision to remain. Three periods structure the local calendar: Thaw and Vital are short, while Dormant, the frozen period, governs it in practice. Eisenhorn killed the heretic Murdin Eyclone on the planet, where Eyclone had attempted to raise Pontius Glaw by emptying the cryotombs.
