Midas Betancore

Midas Betancore was a Glavian gun-cutter pilot and one of the earliest members of Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn’s retinue.

Recruited from his homeworld of Glavia, Midas flew Eisenhorn and his growing company through some of the inquisitor’s formative investigations, carrying the retinue through the discoveries made on Hubris, the Glaw war fought on Gudrun, and the excavation at Damask that yielded the Pontius crystal. Within the retinue he worked alongside contemporaries such as the savant Aemos and the Arbites veteran Fischig, and his skill at the controls became a fixed point of reference for Eisenhorn, who afterwards judged every pilot who followed against Midas’s standard.

Midas did not survive to see the retinue’s later campaigns. He was killed by the renegade Fayde Thuring, who struck him down with a narco-dart as he worked to shield Eisenhorn from the attack; his death is recorded as permanent, with no account of any later return.

His daughter, Medea Betancore, inherited both the Betancore surname and the family’s gun-cutter, taking up her father’s place at the controls and carrying his legacy into Eisenhorn’s later service.
