Color Sergeant Jarran Kell

Colour Sergeant Jarran Kell was a Cadian Shock Trooper who long served as aide-de-camp and bodyguard to Lord Castellan Ursarkar E. Creed.

Kell rose through the Cadian Shock Troopers to become Creed’s aide-de-camp, a posting that kept him permanently at his commander’s side rather than in independent command of troops. Across the successive Black Crusades that broke against the Cadian Gate — the narrow, stable warp passage that made Cadia the most contested fortress world guarding the approaches to the Segmentum Solar — Kell is recorded as a constant presence beside Creed, his steadiness credited alongside Creed’s own instincts for the stratagems that built the Lord Castellan’s reputation among the Astra Militarum. Where Creed supplied audacity, Kell supplied the discipline of a bodyguard rather than the flourish of a field officer. He remained at Creed’s side through the Thirteenth Black Crusade, when Abaddon the Despoiler’s forces breached the Cadian pylon network and Creed held the Despoiler’s attention at the height of the assault long enough for Saint Celestine’s intervention to cover much of the Cadian evacuation.

No confirmed account of Kell’s fate survives the fall of Cadia, in keeping with the uncertainty that also surrounds Creed’s own disappearance amid the world’s destruction. Kell’s significance rests on his proximity to Creed rather than on independent deeds, binding his record to Cadia’s defence and to the Lord Castellan whose command he never left. He should not be confused with the similarly titled Colour Sergeant of the Tanith First-and-Only, a separate Cadian-born non-commissioned officer who serves Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade; the shared rank and surname mark two distinct postings rather than one career. Jarran Kell’s own place in the record remains fixed to Cadia, alongside Creed, across the decades of Black Crusades that preceded the fortress world’s fall.
