Junith Eruita

Junith Eruita is a Canoness of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, who leads her Sisters from the Pulpit of Saint Holline, a mobile armoured shrine. The Pulpit is built onto the chassis of an armoured vehicle, and from it Eruita delivers sermons that are timed to the advance of her own guns rather than to the rhythm of a fixed liturgy. She does not fight on foot; she goes to war aboard the Pulpit, and her Sisters treat its passage through a warzone as itself a form of preaching.

Her command emerged from the reordering of the Ministorum that followed the fall of Cadia and the opening of the Great Rift, when the Ecclesiarchy needed commanders able to make martyrdom a deliberate instrument of war rather than an incidental cost of it. Where most Canonesses of the Orders Militant lead squads and companies of Battle Sisters in the manner set down since the order’s earliest campaigns, Eruita leads what amounts to a moving cathedral, and her Sisters are trained to fight to the pace of a sermon rather than the other way round.

The Order of Our Martyred Lady is recorded as the oldest and most numerous of the Orders Militant, tracing its lineage to Saint Alicia Dominica and the founding of the Adepta Sororitas itself, and Eruita’s command sits within that long institutional memory rather than apart from it. Her homeworld, Ophelia VII, is one of the shrine worlds of the Ophelia system that has long supplied the Sororitas with novices and matériel, and the world continues to regard her as one of its own even as her campaigns take her far beyond it.

Opposing commanders learn to treat the Pulpit of Saint Holline as a priority target, since its destruction would silence both a gun platform and a source of morale at once, yet accounts describe it as being defended in strength before that can be achieved. Within the Order, the noise of its engines and the cant of its speakers are received as parts of the same liturgy, a fusion of the Ministorum’s oldest rites with the demands of a war fought against the Great Rift’s widening reach.
