Marazhai

Marazhai Aezyrraesh is a Drukhari Incubus who serves a Rogue Trader dynasty as a bonded blade, as recorded in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

Trained within the shrine-cults of Commorragh in the use of paired klaives, Marazhai belongs to the Incubi, the caste of elite close-combat warriors whom Drukhari kabals and courts hire as temple-trained enforcers and bodyguards. Before entering the Rogue Trader’s service he is found as a captive fighter in the gladiatorial pits of the Koronus Expanse, stripped of the standing his training once afforded him. He subsequently joins the dynasty’s retinue, where he applies the Incubi’s discipline, precision, ritual restraint, and a doctrine that treats killing as a controlled art rather than indulgence, to the unfamiliar role of a blade bound continuously to a single non-Drukhari patron, a position the Incubi’s own custom treats as transactional rather than a matter of loyalty. Aboard the dynasty’s ship he serves alongside Yrliet, an Aeldari Ranger, the two warriors’ presence echoing the older enmity between the craftworlds and Commorragh without either being bound by it in the dynasty’s service.

Marazhai’s personal course concerns the debt his fall from the shrines has left him, and the surviving record allows more than one resolution to that reckoning, so his ultimate standing among the Incubi, whether reconciled, further estranged, or something else again, is best treated as unknown rather than settled. As with Drazhar, the Master of Blades who answers to no shrine, Marazhai’s record shows how loosely an Incubus’s bond to Commorragh can sit once his blades are hired elsewhere. His place on the Orrery map and timeline is anchored to Commorragh, the Dark City where the Incubi shrines are kept, and to the Koronus Expanse, the frontier theatre of the Rogue Trader’s voyage in which his service is recorded.
