Asdrubael Vect
Supreme Overlord of Commorragh, Archon of the Kabal of the Black Heart
Also known as Supreme Overlord of Commorragh, Lord of the Black Heart
Homeworld: Commorragh
Asdrubael Vect is the Supreme Overlord of Commorragh, archon of the Kabal of the Black Heart, and the Drukhari’s most enduring political power. Born a slave in the millennia before his rise, he is recorded as having clawed his way through the Dark City’s lower castes by treachery and patient calculation rather than the raw duelling prowess most archons rely upon. The Fall of the Eldar produced the Drukhari as a people; Vect imposed a hierarchy upon them, and Commorragh’s present order is substantially his design.
Vect’s ascent to the Black Heart throne came through the methodical destruction of the kabal’s earlier leadership, and his hold on Commorragh since has rested less on any single conquest than on his manipulation of the city’s balance of terror. He arranged the Reign of Blood, a prolonged and deliberately engineered contest among rival archons, to thin the ranks of any faction that might challenge him, and he is credited with codifying the shifting alliances of the Kabalite courts into a system that functions only while he remains its operator. Commorragh has no emperor; Vect occupies that vacancy in practice while declining the formal title, since a throne can be toppled but a necessary man cannot easily be replaced.
During the Night of Revelations, Vect is recorded as having contained an influx of daemons into the webway by placing the affected reaches under quarantine, sacrificing lesser kabals to preserve the wider city. He responded to the growing influence of Yvraine and the Ynnari by commissioning proxies to move against her rather than acting himself, since open intervention would have conceded that the Cult of Ynnead posed a threat to his authority, an admission he is not recorded as making. Vect treats existential dangers as costs to be budgeted against the city’s stability rather than enemies to be met in person, a habit that has preserved both his life and his reputation for detachment.
His court includes Drazhar, master of the Incubi shrine that serves as his bodyguard, and his rule is contested in the shadows by rival archons such as Duke Sliscus, whose trade networks he tolerates but does not trust, and Lelith Hesperax, whose popularity in the arenas he treats as a resource rather than a threat. His dealings with the Asuryani and Ynnari remain adversarial, coloured by his refusal to accept any narrative in which the Drukhari exist to be redeemed. Emperors die; Vect has remained the same problem since the webway first learned his name, and his continuity, not any single victory, is the foundation of his standing in Commorragh.
