The Visarch

Sword of Ynnead, Champion of Yvraine

Also known as Laarian Starspeaker, Sword of Ynnead, Blade of Ynnead

Homeworld: Biel-Tan

The Visarch is a Biel-Tan Dire Avenger Exarch who forsook his Path to serve Yvraine, becoming the warrior styled the Sword of Ynnead. Before his exile he was known as Laarian Starspeaker, Exarch of the Silvered Blade shrine, a role that bound him to the discipline and long memory of Biel-Tan’s warrior cult. His break with that Path is recorded as unprecedented: an Exarch’s shrine oath is meant to be permanent, yet he set it aside to follow a student of the Black Library archives who had begun to speak of Ynnead’s waking. That choice, made before Yvraine’s path to godhood was assured, marks him as the first and most enduring of her followers.

When Yvraine turned to forbidden witchcraft and was driven into exile, the Visarch followed her into Commorragh rather than remain within Aeldari society. In the Dark City he fought and killed an Incubus klaivex of the Coiled Blade shrine in single combat, a victory by which he is said to have claimed both a measure of that shrine’s lethal art and the name by which he is now known, setting aside Laarian Starspeaker for good. His wargear reflects this history: he wields Asu-var, the Crone Sword, and wears Bel-Anshoc plate, armour reckoned to predate the Fall of the Aeldari and so older than Commorragh itself. He later led Yvraine out of the Dark City, the first step in her return to open war against the Great Enemy.

As Yvraine’s chosen blade, the Visarch stood at her side through the founding campaigns of the Ynnari, including her stand on Kalisus, and fought beside her through Ultramar in the chaotic aftermath of Cadia’s fall, when the Ynnari sought souls and allies amid the opening of the Great Rift near Macragge. On Iathglas he was brought to the edge of death in single combat against Shalaxi Helbane, the Fallen Autarch turned daemon of Slaanesh; his near-slaying there is recorded as the provocation that drew the Yncarne itself onto the field in answer.

Harlequins who read the currents of fate have named the Visarch as the one destined to betray Yvraine, yet this warning has changed nothing in his conduct: he continues to stand as her foremost guardian, sword and shield against every threat that reaches her. That contradiction, a devoted protector marked by prophecy as a future traitor, defines his standing among the Ynnari’s leadership as much as any battle he has fought. His career, from shrine oath to exile to godhood’s threshold, illustrates a loyalty that has outlasted the Path that first shaped him.
