Lijah Cuu

Lijah Cuu is a Verghastite sniper of the Tanith First-and-Only, an Imperial Guard regiment, portrayed as a concealed murderer among his comrades. He is one of the Verghastite troopers absorbed into the regiment following the siege of his home hive, and he serves thereafter as a scout and marksman within its ranks during the wider Sabbat Worlds campaign.

Within the regiment, Cuu is recorded as an exceptionally capable marksman, valued for his skill in scouting and long-range engagement. Accounts of his service also describe a sustained pattern of covert killing directed at fellow Ghosts, particularly those he resents or regards as threats to himself, with these deaths disguised as combat losses or accidents rather than acknowledged as murder. His antagonism toward fellow trooper Gol Kolea is a recurring feature of this pattern, and his conduct places him at odds with the regiment’s disciplinary structure even as his battlefield competence keeps him useful to it.

Cuu’s standing in the Gaunt’s Ghosts narrative rests on his function as a hidden threat operating inside a unit otherwise defined by loyalty and cohesion, offering a contrast to the regiment’s more conventionally regarded soldiers. Later accounts hold that his crimes are eventually uncovered by another Ghost, leading to his death; the precise circumstances are treated within the narrative as a private reckoning rather than a matter of formal record.
