Slyte

Slyte is a daemon of the warp that possessed the interrogator Carl Thonius during the Eustis Majoris case, manifesting fully within the hive city of Petropolis. For much of the investigation it rode Thonius as a hidden passenger, feeding on the subtlety of the possession until the pretence could no longer hold. Only when the hive’s own authorities and Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor’s warband learned its true name did the entity’s grip on its host become fully exposed, since a daemon’s binding is weakened once that name is spoken against it.

The warning came early but went unheeded. The psyker boy Zael Efferneti’s untrained sight brushed against Slyte before the warband recognised what moved beneath Thonius’s manner, and Ravenor paid afterwards for the time lost in denying the pattern his own interrogator presented. The hunt drew in the rest of Ravenor’s retinue, including Patience Kys and Harlon Nayl, as the case shifted from tracking heretical flects through Petropolis to confronting what had been carried inside their own circle.

Petropolis still marks the place of Slyte’s manifestation, and Thonius’s fate was bound to the daemon’s unmasking: his body served as the door through which Slyte walked, and the interrogator the warband had known did not survive the entity’s exposure intact. Slyte itself is recorded only in connection with this one case, with no further appearances or homeworld attested beyond the Eustis Majoris affair.
