The Swarmlord is the hive mind's specialist, a Hive Tyrant it bothers to remember. When a war needs more than instinct, the mind grows this one again, pours old campaigns into a new skull, and sends it to finish what lesser beasts could only start.
Ichar IV learned that. So did the Devastation of Baal. Kill it and you have bought a delay, not a victory. The boneswords come back with the grudges still attached, which is as close as Tyranids get to having a named enemy.
The Imperium files it as a leader. It is a tool the hive mind refuses to throw away. That should worry anyone still using the word unique.
