Jalen

Jalen was an Alpha Legion psyker and Terran operative who fought in the Tallarn war under the cover of a serf. He used Argonis’s orbit and the Black Oculus as identifying references, in the way that others employ a staff code. He was not a member of the Raven Guard; his work required only that observers place him within such categories.

The desert campaign served largely to gather intelligence: who held command, who could be turned, and which Imperial Army staff officer might open a gate without recognising the consequence. Jalen’s method was to remain unremarked in a room, in the manner of its furnishings, until something useful was said, and then to withdraw.

After the events of the Black Oculus and the abandonment of the serf’s identity, the XX Legion ceased to record him. Tallarn had served the Legion’s purposes, and Terra had provided the operative. Whether he died on Tallarn or continued under another name is not recorded, which accords with the Alpha Legion’s customary silence on its agents.
