Volk

Volk was an Olympian void-fighter and captain of the Iron Warriors’ 786th Grand Flight who, possessed by the daemon Sa’ra’am, became the first Obliterator. He was a friend of Argonis. After travelling to Sarum, he returned as a kind of warrior for which the IV Legion, the Iron Warriors’ formal Legion designation, had no existing term.

Volk fought at Tallarn and Krade, and afterwards carried the Obliterator infection to the Lion’s Gate, where the virus and his flesh shared a single hull. His transformation at Sarum ended his service as a pilot. The 786th Grand Flight thereby sustained a casualty of a new kind.

Volk is properly classed as a daemon, not as a living officer. The 786th Grand Flight lost a captain, and the Obliterator cult gained its prototype. The virus was encountered on Terra at the Lion’s Gate. Olympia, and Argonis in particular, would not have recognised the man Volk had been before Sarum.
