Koparnos

Koparnos was an Iron Warriors Warsmith who survived the crash of the Eagle’s Talon over Tallarn and later seized the Imperial vessel Ostentio Contritio. As a Warsmith, he held senior officer rank in the Iron Warriors, the IV Legion of the Space Marines.

After the crash, Koparnos did not treat the loss of his ship as an end to his participation in the fighting on Tallarn, a desert world. He took control of the Ostentio Contritio and returned an Imperial hull to the conflict under Iron Warriors direction. The Iron Warriors, associated with the world of Olympia, are characterised by a practical outlook in which survival is a logistical condition and captured vessels are a usable resource. Koparnos’s action accords with that outlook.

The Imperial Army lost a ship through the seizure, while the Iron Warriors primarch Perturabo retained an officer who had already survived the destruction of his own vessel. No account of Koparnos after the hijacking appears in the records of the campaign. The conditions on Tallarn make it plausible that he perished there, although his fate is not recorded.
