Kalikgol

Kalikgol was a White Scars commander who took a Chogorian strike force to virus-burned Tallarn and survived the kind of tank war the V Legion was not born for. He was a steppe officer in a desert that killed engines by breathing on them, and he still came out with a map.

After the worst of it he surveyed the Khedive with Susada Syn and Zavier Gorn, three very different Imperial servants trying to decide whether the ground they had bought was actually ground. Kalikgol's report was the Scar version: ride it or lose it.

He lived. That already puts him ahead of most names on that planet. Chogoris got a commander back from a war of rust. Tallarn kept the dust he had ridden through, and the Khedive kept a White Scar's survey as if it were a victory hymn.
