Makari

Makari is a grot who carries the banner of Ghazghkull Thraka, the Ork Prophet of the Waaagh, and has repeatedly returned to that duty after apparently dying. Grots are the small, servile creatures kept by the Orks, and a Waaagh is an Ork host gathered for mass conquest. Ghazghkull regards Makari as his favourite among the grots.

Makari has been fed to squigs (the Orks’ livestock beasts), left among battlefield debris, and made the subject of jokes. Each time, he has reappeared in the same role. Ghazghkull still wants him at the front of the host, carrying the flag. Whether his survival is owed to the Ork deities Gork and Mork, or simply to a grot too stupid to remain dead, is not established. Other grots are discouraged from asking.

Ork belief does not usually include a mascot, yet Ghazghkull’s Waaagh has one. The banner is central to Makari’s role. His continued presence indicates that even a Waaagh able to break Armageddon still requires a witness.
