Alicia Dominica

Alicia Dominica is recorded as the founding Matriarch of the Adepta Sororitas, the armed sisterhood of the Ecclesiarchy, in the 36th millennium. She is remembered in the Imperial Creed as the figure around whom the Sisters of Battle were first organised as a disciplined military body, with Terra, the seat of the Ecclesiarchy, as the principal setting of her office. Her origins before that office are not clearly attested, and accounts of her early life differ.

Her place in the chronology follows the Age of Apostasy, the period in which the High Lord Goge Vandire ruled the Ecclesiarchy through the Reign of Blood and sought to command its forces through the Frateris Templar. After Vandire’s fall, the Ecclesiarchy was reformed under the influence of Sebastian Thor, and the prohibition on the Ecclesiarchy maintaining its own armed men was addressed by the creation of female orders, whose members were held to fall outside the letter of that prohibition. Later tradition credits Alicia Dominica with establishing the first of these orders and shaping their discipline and doctrine. Detailed records of individual campaigns and of her personal relationships are sparse, and this dossier does not supply them beyond what tradition supports.

Alicia Dominica’s standing rests on the institution she is held to have founded. The Adepta Sororitas, divided into its Orders Militant and served by the Orders Hospitaller, Dialogus and Famulous, remains one of the principal instruments of the Ecclesiarchy across the Imperium. Her contemporaries in the story of the reform include Sebastian Thor and Goge Vandire, whose opposed roles define the years in which the Sisterhood arose. She is generally regarded as having died long before the present era, and her name survives chiefly through the Sisterhood’s traditions and its veneration of founding figures.
