Actae

Actae is an immortal woman recorded as one of the Emperor of Mankind’s earliest experiments in transhuman survival, predating even the Thunder Warriors. Accounts place her origin in the Unification Wars fought on Terra long before the Great Crusade, when the Emperor tested the limits of engineered human endurance on a handful of subjects; Actae is described as the rare survivor of that programme, carrying a body marked by repeated augmentation and a life span that has long outstripped any baseline human’s.

She passes through most of Imperial history unrecorded, resurfacing millennia later in the era of the Black Legion, where she is found bound by fate and circumstance to Khayon, a sorcerer of that Legion descended from the Word Bearers. Their association, formed far from Terra and long after the Heresy that reshaped the Legiones Astartes, casts Actae as a living witness to the gulf between the Emperor’s Unification-era ambitions and the fractured Imperium his sons ultimately produced. She is not a warrior in her own right by report, but a companion and counsel to Khayon, travelling in the company of the Ezekarion, the inner circle gathered around Abaddon the Despoiler.

Actae’s significance lies less in any single deed than in the timeline she embodies: a thread stretching from the pre-Crusade Unification Wars on Terra to the wars of the Black Legion tens of thousands of years later, binding the Emperor’s earliest and most secretive project to the ongoing rebellion of his lost primarch’s heirs. Her contemporaries are drawn chiefly from Khayon’s circle rather than from the Great Crusade generation to which her origin properly belongs, and her continued presence, however sparingly attested, marks her as one of the very few beings alive to have witnessed both Terra’s unification and its long aftermath.
