Armillus Dynat

Armillus Dynat, called Griefbringer, was a Terran-born Harrowmaster of the Alpha Legion, known for the Paramar, Tesstra and Oannessi campaigns. His wars tended to appear as victories for other parties until the fighting had ended. The Alpha Legion is also designated the XX Legion.

The Legion employed Dynat as an instrument of tempo: he arrived, disrupted the opposing chain of command, and left a planet’s forces fighting one another. He relied on a timetable, a captured banner and the misplaced confidence of his opponents rather than a siege train. The Paramar campaign served as a demonstration of these methods and Tesstra as a lesson in them. The Imperial Army learned of the Oannessi operation only after it was too late to respond.

Records of Dynat diminish after the Paramar campaigns. Terra produced him, and the Heresy consumed his service. Whether he died in an unrecorded action or simply relinquished the title of Harrowmaster is not established, and the Alpha Legion issued no announcement of either, as is its custom. His career is nonetheless a clear example of the Legion’s preference for indirect, deceptive warfare over open assault.
