Amon
Captain of the 9th Fellowship, Equerry to Magnus, Magister Templi of the Order of Blindness
Also known as Magister Templi Amon
Homeworld: Prospero
Amon was a Prosperine scholar and captain of the Thousand Sons’ Ninth Fellowship, tutor to Ahriman and later founder of the Brotherhood of Dust. He belonged to the circle of loremasters around Primarch Magnus the Red on Prospero, and his career links the Legion’s scholarly beginnings on that world to the consequences of the Rubric. He held the titles of equerry to Magnus, Magister Templi of the Order of Blindness and captain of the Ninth Fellowship, and he is recorded as having taught both the primarch and Ahzek Ahriman.
Unlike most of the Legion’s officers, Amon is described as an adult scholar of the Cults Hermeticum of Tizca before he entered the Astartes, and he retained the manner of a teacher throughout his service. His contemporaries in the Legion’s inner councils included Ahriman, the seer Menkaura of the Corvidae, and the other Fellowship captains who answered directly to Magnus. When the Space Wolves and their allies attacked Tizca during the Burning of Prospero, in the early years of the Horus Heresy, Amon is recorded as fighting in the city’s defence beside the primarch. The Legion’s survivors then withdrew into the warp, and this event divides his career into a Prosperine period and an exile that followed.
In the aftermath, Amon took part in the casting of the Rubric, the working by which Ahriman sought to halt the Legion’s mutations and preserve its sorcerous knowledge. It instead reduced most of the rank and file to dust bound within their armour. Amon is recorded as one of the casters who remained whole in body and mind, and he later founded the Brotherhood of Dust, a faction of Thousand Sons devoted to reversing the Rubric and restoring their entombed brethren. Accounts differ on how far the Brotherhood’s efforts progressed. In the same period he is placed in opposition to Ahriman, whom he had once taught, and the two fell into a conflict that ended with Amon’s death.
According to the dossier’s established account, Ahriman killed Amon and took his armour for his own use, leaving only ash. Amon’s career therefore runs from tutor of Magnus and Ahriman, through caster of the Rubric, to would-be undoer of that same spell, ending at the hand of his former pupil. On the Orrery map he is anchored to Prospero and to the Thousand Sons’ timeline entries. He is distinct from the Custodian Amon Tauromachian of the Adeptus Custodes, a coincidence of name rather than any relationship between the two.
