Amendera Kendel
Oblivion Knight, Agentia Tertius
Also known as Agentia Tertius, Oblivion Knight Kendel
Homeworld: Terra
Amendera Kendel was an Oblivion Knight of the Sisters of Silence who escaped Isstvan III and served Malcador the Sigillite as Agentia Tertius. Bound by the Silent Sisterhood’s vow of muteness, she operated as a hunter of psykers—individuals possessing psychic abilities—and was defined by a complete psychic absence that daemons and warp-touched minds alike found repellent. Her order’s discipline left almost no written record of individual Sisters, so what is known of Kendel survives chiefly through the events surrounding the opening atrocities of the Horus Heresy and the warrant she was later granted.
The Sisters of Silence trained from earliest recruitment to close their minds entirely to the immaterium, rendering them invisible to psychic sight and immune to warp predation. This made them the Imperium’s foremost instrument against rogue or corrupted psykers, a role the Oblivion Knights performed with particular severity. Kendel’s presence aboard a starship or beside a target was, by the nature of her calling, a psychic void—a fact later loyalists on Terra came to recognise as a mark of trust rather than menace.
Kendel was present during the betrayal at Isstvan III, when Warmaster Horus turned his guns on his own loyal regiments. She joined the company of survivors—among them the Death Guard captain Nathaniel Garro, the ancient Iacton Qruze, the remembrancer-turned-witness Kaleb Arin, and the iterator Kyril Sindermann—who commandeered the frigate Eisenstein to carry warning of the Warmaster’s treachery back to Terra. The flight itself was fraught with pursuit and internal corruption, and Kendel’s untouchable mind was, by report, one of the few certainties the fleeing loyalists could rely upon as they neared the Throneworld.
Upon the Eisenstein’s arrival at Terra, Malcador the Sigillite took a direct interest in the survivors and drew Kendel into his personal service, granting her an Imperial warrant that placed the authority of his office behind her judgement. Under this commission, styled Agentia Tertius, she was empowered to act against entire worlds in the Sigillite’s name. It was in this capacity that Kendel achieved a singular historical distinction: the first human being, rather than a Space Marine, recorded as having declared Exterminatus—the annihilation of a world—in the Emperor’s name, an authority the Imperium had until then reserved for the Astartes.
Because the Silent Sisterhood kept no formal chronicles of its members, the surviving warrant remains the principal record of Kendel’s career, and her subsequent fate during the Heresy is not recorded. She stands nonetheless as a fixed point linking the flight from Isstvan III to Malcador’s Terra-bound inner circle, a contemporary of Garro, Qruze, and Sindermann whose vow of silence proved no obstacle to shaping the Imperium’s earliest response to Horus’s betrayal.
