Amon Tauromachian

Custodian of the First Circle, Longinus

Also known as Amon Longinus, Amon of the First Circle

Homeworld: Terra

Amon Tauromachian is a Custodian of the first circle, later styled Longinus, who served the Emperor from the Unification Wars to the Siege of Terra. He belongs to the Adeptus Custodes, the Emperor’s personal guard, and is a different person from Amon of the Thousand Sons, with whom his name is sometimes confused. His service spans the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, and his later conduct concerns the Imperial Palace on Terra more than any campaign fought beyond it.

He was raised into the Emperor’s guard during the Unification Wars, and his early service is recorded through the Blood Games, in which he played against his own palace. During the Great Crusade he held checkpoint duties at Ullanor, where Magnus is recorded as having predicted his future greatness. Constantin Valdor, Captain-General of the Custodes, later assigned him to deal with daemons in the refugee camps of Terra. He then sent him against Basilio Fo, who had offered a plague capable of killing every Astartes. The name Longinus came to him for killing Cor’bax Utterblight in the company of Euphrati Keeler, and it remained among his titles afterwards.

The decisive episode of his career falls in the final hours of the Siege of Terra, when he accompanied Basilio Fo rather than surrender him to an execution order whose authority had not been verified. Tauromachian survived the Siege and remained in the depths of the Imperial Palace at a time when the Emperor’s condition had become a matter of custody. The Dynastes styled him a Lord of Terra. His titles accumulated over time, but his function remained that of a warden. For map and timeline use, he binds Terra to two dated points, Ullanor during the Great Crusade and the Palace during the Siege, and links to Valdor, Magnus, Keeler and Fo as his principal contemporaries.

His present status is recorded as missing. Later tradition places him within the Palace, but accounts differ on his whereabouts and standing, and no settled record of his fate has been established.
